Folio: 418v. About parts across the seas. Confirmation of a grant.
First party: Edward II.
Second Party: Thomas, earl of Lancaster.
Place or Subject: Whereas Eleanor, late queen of England, the king's grandmother [Eleanor of Provence], had granted a portion of land or county, which befell to her by right of inheritance, and whatever she acquired from the succession of her father and mother, to the king's kinsmen Thomas, earl of Lancaster, and Henry, brother of the same Thomas, sons of Edmund, late earl of Leicester, and grandsons of the said Eleanor. If it happens either of her said grandsons die without heirs in tail, the whole would go to the surviving grandson, and if Edmund's children, then born and from then on to be born, die without children in tail, then the whole inheritance was to go to her heirs as kings of England. Which grant Edward I, late king of England, the king's father, by his letters patent, afterwards confirmed. Edward II now grants to the earl the said portion or land or county with rule and jurisdiction and all rights appertaining, and whatever could revert or descend to him or his heirs from the said inheritance by any right.
