Folio: 415. Earldom of Richmond. Writ.
First party: Edward III.
Second Party: The freeholders of the fees which the king had from the gift and grant of Robert de Lisle, knight (fees, which are extinct in the king's hands, only excepted).
Place or Subject: Whereas amongst other things the king granted [lands] to John, king of Castile and Leon, duke of Lancaster, his son [John of Gaunt], by his charter, indented, to have to him and his heirs in tail, in exchange for the earldom of Richemond [Richmond] and the honor, castles, manors, lands, tenements and other places pertaining to that earldom, given and granted to the king by the same man, the king has granted those fees to him (the fees extinct in the king's hands excepted), with all things belonging or pertaining to those fees howsoever and wheresoever. To have to him and his heirs in tail by the services due and accustomed forever, as is more fully contained in that charter.
