Description

Folios: 414-414v. Earldom of Richmond. Assignment of lands.

First party: Edward III.

Second Party: John, earl of Richemond [Richmond], the king's son [John of Gaunt], and Blanche his wife, one of the daughters and heirs of Henry, late duke of Lancaster, deceased.

Place or Subject: The king, from the lands and tenements which are held in dower or otherwise for the term of life from the inheritance of Henry, late duke of Lancaster, who held of the king in chief, and whose reversions ought to pertain after the death of those men to the heirs of the duke, with the assent of the king's kinswoman, Maud, one of the daughters and heirs of the duke, has assigned to John and Blanche the following lands and tenements with their appurtenances: namely the manor of Coggeshale [Coggeshall], which Thomas Mascy holds; the manor of Cridelyng [Cridling Stubbs], which John Neumarche holds; the manor of Barleye [Barley], which William Bracebrigg holds; the manor of Lilbourn [Lilbourne], which Simon Symeon holds; the manor of Toresholm [Torrisholme], which Nicholas de Panetria holds; the manor of Marchesden [Marsden], which John Seyvill holds; the manor of Swanyngton [Swannington], which John Talbot holds; the manor of Passenham, which Edmund de Ufford holds; certain lands and tenements in Daventre [Daventry], which Stephen Romyloo holds; certain lands and tenements in Hinkele [Hinckley] with the mills of Lilleburn [Lilbourne], which John Hastynges holds; and the manor of Uggele [Ugley], Essex, which Simon Symeon holds; each of the above men holding them for the term of their lives of the said inheritance.
