Description

Folios: 407-407v. County of Yorkshire. Charters or muniments found in the castle of Pontefract, Yorks, in a box, marked by a sign. Agreement.

First party: John de Lascy [Lacy], earl of Lincoln, and constable of Chester.

Second Party: Thomas de Pouelington [Pollington].

Place or Subject: John de Lascy granted Thomas and his heirs 60 acres of land, measured by a perch of 20 feet, of which 20 are of a standing wood and 40 of a coppice, which is between the standing wood of Fippin and the vill of Pouelington [Pollington], extending in length next to the ditch of Bonecroft, to be ditched and enclosed, and to make his benefit and will more fully, without any opposition of John or his heirs. And for this grant Thomas quitclaimed for himself and his heirs to John and his heirs the whole right and claim which he had or could have, or his heirs could have, in the coppiced wood of Fippin and in Almholm, to ditch, enclose and make his benefit and will without any opposition of Thomas or his heirs or men. Saving to Thomas, his heirs and men three roads, namely one between the ditch of John's field and the wood of Fippin, extending as far as the head of Almholm towards the river between the coppiced wood and a certain foreign oak, which stands there in testimony, of the width of two perches. And the other road extends between the wood, which John de Lascy granted to him and his heirs above and his own wood as far as the south field towards the west, of the width of two perches. And the third road of the same width begins at the standing wood of Fippin as far as the river of Dike between the wood of Fippin and the south field.

Additional people: (witnesses) Henry de Notingeham [Nottingham], parson of Rowell [Rothwell]; Adam de Nereford; John de Crigleston [Crigglestone], then steward; Thomas de Belewe; John de Hecke; Henry de Goldale; Walter de Ludham; and Osbert the clerk.
