Description

Folios: 406-407. County of Yorkshire. Charters or muniments found in the castle of Pontefract, Yorks, in a box, marked by a sign. Exemplification of a fine, levied in the court of Edward I in the quindene of Michaelmas 30 Edw. I, between Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, and Benedict, abbot of St Mary of York, about the manor of Whitegift [Whitgift] and certain other possessions.

First party: King Henry, king of England and France and lord of Ireland.

Place or Subject: King Henry has inspected the tenor of the foot of a certain fine levied in the court of Edward I before Ralph de Hengham and his fellow justices, between Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, querent, and Benedict, abbot of the church of St Mary of York, deforciant, concerning the manor of Whitegift [Whitgift] with appurtenances and £10 18s 4d of rent with appurtenances in Rednesse [Reedness] and Huk [Hook], 20 acres of land and marsh with appurtenances in Ayrmynne [Airmyn], and 20,000 acres of moor with appurtenances in Snayth [Snaith], sent by the treasurer and chamberlain into the Chancery at the king's command.
