Description

Folio: 385v. County of Yorkshire. Charter set by the abbot of Rievall [Rievaulx].

First party: Thophin de Alvestan and Geoffrey, his nephew.

Place or Subject: Thophin de Alvestan and Geoffrey, his nephew, acknowledged on oath the king's waste to be from Alvestanbek as far as Takryvelyng, namely by Reginald the forester, Hugh Boya and Aelfwin Hert, who were the three keepers of that waste. And after them Theobald de Nova Villa, Gilbert de Atona [Ayton], Ralph Lovel of Gristhorp [Gristhorpe], William, son of Norman of Ebreston [Ebberston], Asketil Malekak, Gamel de Roeston, Theobald de Marton, Gamel de Rouceby, Cospatric his brother, Richard son of Roger de Thornton, Engenald de Wylton [Wilton], Theodore de Sexendal, Theobald, son of Pain de Wycam, Thor son of Asca de Snaynton [Snainton], Roger son of Ukk de Rolston, Hugh son of Waltheny de Rolston, Stephen Maungenybayn, Walter Bardulf, Ulfrik de Kynthorp [Kingthorpe], Richard son of Angot, Richard de Galmeton, William son of Ketell, Richard son of Rollemylans, Stephen son of Gam[el] de Pykeryng [Pickering], Robert de Bouefeld, Walter son of Arnald de Aslacby, William son of Roescy, Luke de Newton, and Godfric de Neuton swore that the waste of the king is from Alvestanbek as far as Takryveling, and so as Midesik heads from Alvestanbek as far as the boundaries between Theokmers and Thornton, and then by the same boundaries between Theokmers and Thornton as far as Midesik, in such a way that the whole territory of Theokmers is enclosed in waste, and then by Midesik as far as Kyptoftsik, and so by Kiptoftsik as far as Costa [Costa Beck], and on the other side of Costa Beck as far as Takryvelyng. Within these named boundaries Eustace son of John, used to have half a carucate of land and a certain meadow, namely in Edynemersk, from which meadow every single year he could carry away the hay, for which he used to pay yearly 4s in socage to the king from Pikeryng [Pickering].
