Place or Subject: King John, by his charter, which the king has inspected, granted to Alan de Wylton and his heirs licence that they can enclose his wood of Torneton [Thornton], which is called Riseberg [Riseborough], and make thereupon a free park, and that they might have dogs in that vill to run in that park, and that they might have a warren at Wilton with appurtenances in Cothum [Coatham], Layesengeby [Lazenby] and Lacneby [Lackenby] in his fee outside the forest, as is more fully contained in that charter. And that Alan, by virtue of this charter, enclosed the wood and made a park thereof. The king, wishing to show special grace to Ralph de Bulmere, who now holds that park with appurtenances from his purchase, grants him that he and his heirs are to have and hold the park and liberties and warrens just asd Alan had them by virtue of the charter without challenge or impediment of the king or his heirs, justices, escheators, sheriffs or other bailiffs or ministers.
