Description

Folios: 325v-326. County of Yorkshire. Still at Hakenesse [Hackness] concerning all kinds of trespasses made in the said forest both in hunting and any other excesses by the abbot of Whiteby [Whitby], his men and tenants:

Peter Lylle and John Scot: It was presented at another time in this eyre before the said justices at Pikeryng [Pickering] that Peter and John felled in the demesnes of Langedon in le Estward [the East Ward] of this forest 24 alders, worth 40d, and 59 thorn trees, worth 40d, and two oaks worth 20d.

William Haye, William Godyer, Thomas Ulf, Robert Goos, Robert Powe and Peter Ulf: It was presented that the said men felled in the demesnes of Langedon in le Estward [the East Ward] of this forest 24 alders, worth 40d, thorns worth 40d, and six oak branches.

Maud de Bruys, Nicholas le Taillour, John de Moreson, William de la More the elder, William de la More the younger and Robert Pateryk the younger: Concerning those who take hares in the forest and wander about with bows and arrows contrary to the assize of the forest, it was presented that Maud de Bruys is accustomed to hunt hares in this forest and to catch them. And Nicholas, John, William and William similarly are accustomed to take hares and have taken them on diverse occasions in the said forest to the terror of the wild beasts of the lord. And that Robert Pateryk the younger is similarly accustomed to wander about within the said forest with bows and arrows to the terror of the wild beasts contrary to the assize of the forest, by which the sheriff was ordered to cause them to come.

Held on: Thursday next after the month of Easter 9 Edw III.
