Folios: 320v-321v. County of Yorkshire. Recital of pleas of the forest at Scardeburgh [Scarborough] 14 Edw I referred to in the plea concerning the bailiffs and commonalty of the borough of Scardeburgh [Scarborough]:
Walter de Lichebek, Richard Swan, Adam de Lychum, and Richer Haldayn: Walter de Lichebek, deceased, Richard Swan, Adam de Lychum, exacted, Richer Haldayn, deceased, and others unknown were in the king's forest on the morrow of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the [blank] year of the reign of King Henry in the hay of Scalby, and they took one roebuck, and they took it away using one cart-horse to the house of Maud la Beriere in Scardeburgh [Scarborough]. Henry is not found and he does not have land, etc. Therefore he is to be exacted.
Gregory de Suthfeld: On Thursday next before Christmas there were four strange men in the wood of Aton [Ayton], and they took one stag and went out in the morning from the house of Gregory de Suthfeld, deceased.
Rainer Lagan, dead, William Larcher of Uskelf [Ulleskelf] and Simon de Heselslak: Reiner, William and Simon took one stag in the hay on Wednesday next before the feast of St John of Beverley in the said year.
John, son of the reeve of Semere [Seamer]: John was seen with other wrongdoers in hunting and doing wrong; he comes before the justices and upon this seeks licence to make concord.
Nicholas Harel and Thomas Boye, dead: On the day of St Thomas the Apostle in the said year, Nicholas Harel, Thomas Boye and eight other strangers were in the forest at Blaklisgate and they killed two stags, and to where they took the game it is not known, and nothing can be done about the eight strangers.
William, son of Thomas de Eketon, William Thumbe, elsewhere redeemed, of Trollesdale, and Roger de Hoton: The men were usual wrongdoers about all wild beasts of the king in the said hay; they have not come, but William, William and Roger stay in Yorkshire.
William de Boyvill, dead, Walter de Grendale, dead, Adam de Lythum, exacted, and William le Archer, who is presented elsewhere: On Thursday next before Palm Sunday in the said year, they killed one female red deer and carried away the body to John de Eketon, dead, constable of the castle of Scardeburgh [Scarborough].
William le Latimer the father, William de Boyvill, John Mygnot, dead, and Robert de Hasthorp: On Wednesday next following, they took two roebucks in the said hay and carried them away to the said castle. Robert has not come, but it is witnessed that he stays in Yorkshire.
Roger de Coningesheued [Conishead], elsewhere redeemed, and Richard Swan, dead: On Saturday next after the Ascension in the said year, Roger and Richard killed one female red deer at Foulwodhepping in the forest and carried them away to where they wished.
Roger de Coningesheued [Conishead], elsewhere redeemed: Roger and others unknown killed one stag at Duntweth on Saturday in Easter week in the same year and carried it away to the house of Richard de Tweng.
Patrick de Westerdale and Walter de Lythebek, dead: Patrick and Walter and others unknown were usual wrongdoers in hunting and were received at the house of Richard de Tweng [Thwing], redeemed above, and at the house of Richard Pa in Scarborough.
ohn Hamund of Scardeburgh [Scarborough]: John and others were usual wrongdoers of the king's hunting. He came before the justices and offered to acquit himself by his oath and 36 men, because he was not found with stolen goods by the verderers and foresters, as is contained in the said charter.</p><p>John de Lymbergh: John was a harbourer of Roger de Coningesheued [Conishead] and other wrongdoers of the hunt, etc.
Thomas le Salter of Scardeburgh [Scarborough] and Roger Farman of the same: Thomas and Roger were usual wrongdoers of the hunt and receivers. They came before the justices and offered to acquit themselves, each by 36 men, because they were not found with stolen goods, and it is granted to them, etc.
Roger de Kitelwell and John Hamond of Scardeburgh [Scarborough]: Roger and John were in the forest at Elhale and hunted one red deer in the said year.
Adam Ughtred of Scardeburgh [Scarborough] and Stephen Trenchemere of the same: Adam and Stephen were harbourers of wrongdoers of the hunt. They came before the justices and offered to acquit themselves, as above.
