Folios: 291v-295. County of Yorkshire. Pleas of claims of liberties and quittances at Pikeryng [Pickering] before Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], Robert de Hungerford and John de Hambury, justices itinerant assigned for pleas of the forest in the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering].
William de Persay and Petronella de Kynthorp [Kingthorpe]: William and Petronella claim to be foresters in the fee of the forest of Pikeryng [Pickering] and to have fines for animals straying from the hay of Blandeby [Blansby] throughout the whole year and the like from Dalby from Easter until Michaelmas, and windfallen wood throughout their whole bailiwick in the lord's demesnes, saving estovers to the men of Pikeryng [Pickering] and Neuton [Newton] from the lord's demesnes belonging to the manor of Pickering, except in the hay of Blansby and the demesnes of Weledale [Welldale]. They also claim to have dry wood fallen to the ground, saving estovers to the men of Pikeryng [Pickering] and Neuton [Newton], as above. They also claim the farm of collecting nuts in the said demesnes, saving estovers to the men of Pickering, as above, except the hay of Blansby and the demesnes of Welldale. They also claim to have the loppings, bark and croppings of oaks given or taken to the lord's use. And they claim to have the rere-pannage in the said demesnes, except in the hay of Blansby and Welldale, and from all other trees in the same manner and not being sold. Petronella, in her own person, says for herself that she and all her ancestors, time out of mind, were foresters in fee in common with Alan de Wrelton, whose estate William de Persay now has, and afterwards Alan, with the said William, paying to the earl and his heirs for the time being for this, and for certain land which she holds in severalty, 20s a year forever. And to do their said farm, time out of mind, they had the fines for animals straying of the hay of Blansby throughout the whole year, and similarly like fines from the glade of Dalleby [Dalby] from Easter until Michaelmas, namely for every beast taken on the first and second occasion for each foot 1d, but with the watch thereof not having been made. And similarly they had windfallen wood throughout their whole bailiwick, saving estovers, etc, and similarly dry wood fallen to the ground, saving etc, and also the farm of collecting nuts in the said demesnes, saving estovers, etc, and also rere-pannage, loppings, bark and croppings from oaks given or taken to the lord's use, and from all other trees in the same manner and not sold, and this she is prepared to verify as the court will consider. And similarly William says that he and Alan, whose estate he now has, and all Alan's ancestors, from time out of mind, were foresters in fee, and they held the office of forester in common with Petronella, paying to the earl and his heirs for the time being for this and for certain land which he holds in severalty, 20s a year forever. And to do their said farm from time out of mind, they had the fines for straying animals of the hay of Blansby throughout the whole year, and similarly like fines of the glade of Dalby, from Easter until Michaelmas, namely for each beast taken on the first and second occasion for each foot 1d, but with the watch thereof not having been made. And similarly they had windfallen wood throughout their whole bailiwick, savng estovers, etc, and similarly dry wood fallen to the ground, saving estovers, etc, and the farm of collecting nuts in the said demesnes, saving estovers, etc, and also rere-pannage, loppings, bark and croppings from oaks given or taken to the lord's use and from all other trees in the same way and not sold. And this he is ready to verify, etc. Therefore the truth thereof is to be inquired into by the ministers of the same forest.
