Description

Folios: 289v-290. County of Yorkshire. Attorneys received at Pikeryng [Pickering] before Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], Robert de Hungerford and John de Hambury, justices itinerant in the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering]:

Simon Fauconer, prior of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England: Simon came and produced a writ of the king before the justices here [recited], stating that, whereas all the houses and brothers of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem, both in Scotland, Wales and England, are subject to the rule of Leonard de Tybertis, prior of the said hospital in England, and that he cannot personally be free from being in diverse pleas concerning him and the said hospital in England, as is expedient for him and the same hospital, the king, wishing to show special grace to the same prior in this regard, has granted to him that Brother Robert Cort and Brother Simon Fauconer, fellow brothers of the same prior, which the prior has attorned, can act in his place as his attorney or attorneys in all pleas and complaints, moved or to be moved before the king in his place to win or lose, for the same prior or against him, and to challenge, bring suit and defend his liberties, in any courts of England it happens one or either of them are present, etc. The writ is dated at Wyndesore [Windsor] on 27 Oct 7 Edw III.
