Description

Folios: 269v-270v. County of Yorkshire. Pleas of the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering], held at Pickering before Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], Robert de Hungerford and John de Hambury, justices itinerant on this occasion assigned to take pleas of the said forest in Yorkshire: Takings of draught-beasts within this forest:

John Prest of Ebreston [Ebberston]: Concerning draught-beasts within this forest, forfeited both within the demesnes and in the forbidden month, the same ministers and jurors present that one colt of John Prest of Ebreston [Ebberston] was found in this forest in a place called Dalby, upon a watch, and it was not agisted, which colt was taken as if forfeited by the assize of the forest and appraised at 40d, and handed back to John by the pledge of Richard de Dalby to have the said colt at this assize, and he has not now come. Therefore he is in mercy.

Robert son of Lambert: They present that five hogs of pigs, which were of Robert son of Lambert, were found within the coppice in this forest at the time of pannage and were not agisted, worth 5s.

Alan son of Alan: They present that 6 hogs of pigs, which were of Alan son of Alan, were found within the coppice at the time of pannage and are not agisted, worth 6s.

The prior of Brydlington [Bridlington]: They present that 8 hogs of pigs, which were of the prior of Bridyngton [Bridlington], were found within the coppice at the time of pannage, not agisted, worth 8s.

The master of Staynton [Stainton]: They present that 6 hogs of pigs, worth 12d, and 4 pigs worth 2s, which were of the master of Staynton Stainton], were found within the coppice in the forbidden month, not agisted.

Geoffrey atte Halle and Roger Salman: They present that two sows, which were of Geoffrey atte Halle and Roger Salman, were found within the coppice in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 2s.

Godard de Roston [Ruston]: They present that 8 hogs of pigs, which were of John de Stapelton [Stapleton], who has died, were found within the coppice in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 4s.

John de Stapelton [Stapleton]: They present that 8 hogs of pigs, which were of John de Stapelton [Stapleton], who has died, were found within the coppice in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 4s.

Nicholas, son of Roger de Lokton [Lockton]: They present that 4 pigs, worth 8s, and 3 hogs of pigs, worth 3s, which were of Nicholas, son of Roger de Lokton [Lockton], were found in Stamheued in the forbidden month, not agisted.

The vicar of Ellerburn: They present that 6 pigs, which were of the vicar of Ellerburn, who has died, were found in the alder grove next to the vill of Ellerburn in the forbidden month, worth 2s.

The parson of Thornton: They present that 6 pigs, which were of the parson of Thornton, who has died, were found within the coppice in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 2s.

Peter Ulf: They present that two pigs and two hogs of pigs, which were of Peter Ulf, were found in the wood of Wicham [Wykeham] in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 6s.

Roger Wisk: They present that 3 hogs of pigs, which were of Roger Wisk, were found in the hay of Scalby in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 3s.

Richard Richeman: They present that 2 colts, which were of Richard Richeman, were found in the hay of Scalby in the forbidden month, not agisted, worth 3s.

John Hert: They present that 6 pigs, which were of John Hert, were found in the meadow of Dalby in the forbidden month by the watch, not agisted, worth 2s.

William Latymer [Latimer]: They present that 8 pigs, which were of William Latymer [Latimer], were found there in the forbidden month by the watch, not agisted, worth 16s.

Alan the reeve: They present that 5 pigs, which were of Alan the reeve, who has died, were found in the demesnes of Dalby at the time of pannage not agisted, each worth 2s.

Master William de Pikeryng [Pickering]: They present that 50 pigs, which were of Master William de Pikeryng [Pickering], who has died, were found in the demesnes of Semere [Seamer] at the time of pannage not agisted, each worth 18d.

Ralph Gegge: They present that Ralph Gegge has depastured the common of Ebreston [Ebberston] with 20 sheep, where he does not have common.

John son of Gilbert: They present that one pig, worth 2s, and three hogs of pigs, worth 3s, which were of John son of Gilbert, were found in Aleyntoftes in the forbidden month not agisted.

Walter de Burton: They present that one pig, which was of Walter de Burton, was found in the hay of Scalby in the forbidden month not agisted, worth 12d.

William de Fulford: They present that four pigs, which were of William de Fulford, were found there in the forbidden month not agisted, worth 8s.

Henry de Bougheland: They present that 40 sheep, which were of Henry de Bougheland, were found in the hay of Scalby in the forbidden month, each worth 12d.

Henry Geryng: They present that one sow, which was of Henry Geryng, was found in Langedon in the forbidden month not agisted, worth 2s.

Alan Lille: They present that 5 pigs, which were of Alan Lille, were found in the wood of Wicham [Wykeham] in the forbidden month not agisted, worth 10s, and they were handed back to the same Alan by the pledge of Geoffrey the smith and Thomas de Neuton [Newton] to have him at this assize, and he has not now come.

Diverse men of Kynthorp [Kingthorpe]: They present that 20 draught-beasts of diverse men of Kynthorp [Kingthorpe] were found in the demesnes of Pikeryng [Pickering], each worth 4s.

John de Rouceby [Roxby]: They present that 10 stirks of John de Rouceby [Roxby] were found in the hay of Dalby by the watch, and not agisted, which were taken as if forfeited by the assize of the forest, and appraised at 20s, and they were handed back to John by the pledge of Roger de Mannesherne to have the said stirks at this assize, and he has now not come.

Held on: Monday next after Michaelmas 8 Edw III.
