Folios: 246-248. County of Yorkshire. Pleas of the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering], held at Pickering before Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], Robert de Hungerford and John de Hambury, justices itinerant on this occasion assigned to take pleas of the said forest in Yorkshire: Regard of the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering]:
John son of Robert: Twelve years ago, John made a certain close in Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself 4½ acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and does not and did not grow crops, but two acres thereof are mown ten times, the price of an acre 12d a year. And as for the rest, each acre is worth 4d a year, and similarly those two at the time, when they were not mown, each acre is worth 4d a year. Sum total 42s 8d. For which John will answer, and the land is to be taken into the hands, etc.
The prioress of Roscedale [Rosedale]: Twenty years ago, the prioress made anew a certain close, containing in itself 18 acres of land, in a place called Clotpark, outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake of Lydel [Liddel], and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and it does nor and did not grow crops, but one acre only is mown four times, the price of a crop 12d a year, and the other acres of that close are worth, each acre 4d a year. Sum total £5 5s 4d.
The prioress of Roscedale [Rosedale]: Twwo years ago, the prioress made anew a certain close in Roscedale [Rosedale] called Brounthwayt, and it contains in itself 20 acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it does not grow and did not grow crops, and each acre is worth 4d a year. Sum total 13s 4d.
The prioress of Roscedale [Rosedale]: Two years ago, the prioress made anew a certain close in Roscedale [Rosedale] in a place called Pesewra, and it contains in itself three roods of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and is of the fee of the same Thomas Wake. Whereof half an acre does not grow crops, but is worth 6d a year. Sum total 12d. For which the prioress will answer and the said land is to be taken into the hands, etc, and the prioress is in mercy, etc.
John son of Robert: One year ago, Robert made a certain close in Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself one acre and a half, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and does not and did not grow crops, but each acre is worth 4d. Sum total 18d. For which John will answer and the land is to be taken into the lord's hands, etc. And John is in mercy, etc.
Abraham son of Alice: Twenty-two years ago, Abraham made a certain close at Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself four acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and does not and did not grow crops, but two acres thereof are mown eight times, the price of a crop of each acre 10d a year, and the other two similarly at the time, when they are not mown, are worth each acre 4d a year. Sum total 36s. For which John le Wethirhirde, who is now the tenant, will answer, and the land is to be taken into the lord's hands, etc, and John is in mercy, etc.
John Wetherhirde: Four years ago, John made a certain close in Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains 3½ acres, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and does not and did not grow crops, but one acre thereof is mown four times, the price of a crop of each acre 10d a year, and the other two and a half acres are worth, namely each acre 4d a year. Sum total 6s 8d. For which John, who is now the tenant, will answer, and the land is to be taken into the lord's hands, etc. And John is in mercy, etc.
William Fox: Twenty-two years ago, William made a certain close in Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself two acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and does not and did not grow crops, and one acre thereof is mown ten times, the price of a crop of an acre 10d a year, and the other acre at the time, when it is not mown, is worth, each acre 4d a year. Sum total 19s 8d. For which Joan, formerly the wife of Richard Knappere, who is now the tenant of the same, will answer and the land is to be taken in the hands, etc, and Joan is in mercy.
John Scotte: Eighteen years ago, John made a certain close in Hartoft outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself three acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and only one acre thereof grows summer crops seven times, the price of an acre 12d a year, and as for the rest, one acre is mown seven times, the price of a crop 10d a year, and the third acre and similarly those two acres at the time, when they do not grow crops or mown, is worth, each acre 4d a year. Sum total 26s 6d. For which William del Myre, who is the now the tenant of the same, will answer and the land is to be taken into the hands, etc, and William is in mercy, etc.
Peter del Tung: Ten years ago, Peter made a certain close at Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself two acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and it does not and did not grow crops, but one acre thereof is mown five times, the price of a crop 10d a year, and the other acre at the time, when is not mown, is worth, each acre 4d a year. Sum total 9s 2d. For which Adam Gigel [Gykel], who is now the tenant of the same, will answer, and the land is to be taken into the hands, etc, and Adam is in mercy, etc.
William de Daneby [Danby]: Twelve years ago, William made a certain close at Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself five acres of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and it does not and did not grow crops, but was mown ten times, the price of a crop of each acre 12d a year, and at the time when it was not mown, each acre is worth 4d a year. Sum total 70s. For which Adam Gikel [Gykel], who is now the tenant of the same, will answer and the land is to be taken into the hands, etc, and Adam is in mercy, etc.
Adam Gykel: The same regarders say upon their oath that Adam made a certain close at Haretoft [Hartoft] outside the lordship in the fee of Thomas Wake, and it contains in itself one acre and one rood of land, and it pertains to the vill of Cropton, and it does not and did not grow crops, but each acre is worth 12d. Sum 2s 6d. For which Adam, who is now the tenant of the same, will answer, and the land is taken into the hands, etc, and Adam is in mercy, etc.
