Folios: 225-226v. County of Yorkshire. Pleas of the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering], held at Pickering before Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], Robert de Hungerford and John de Hambury, justices itinerant on this occasion assigned to take pleas of the said forest in Yorkshire: Trespassers of the hunt, and their mainpernors, who were sent away and do not come:
Robert Gos of Brokeseye [Broxa]: On Wednesday in the week of Easter 11 Edw III, Robert was passing through this forest in a certain place next to Vulnedeum, where he found the body of a dead stag, which had been hunted by other wrongdoers, but while alive had escaped from them, etc, and he carried the said stag away and did his will thereupon. He was not previously attached, and it is witnessed that he is living in the country. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause him to come.
The names of those men and their mainpernors, who, after they trespassed in this forest by hunting, were sent away by mainprise to be before the justices, etc, at the next assize, and do not come, nor are they essoined, as is the custom, as follows:
Edmund de Hastynges [Hastings]: Edmund was sent away by the mainprise of Thomas le Taillour of Pikeryng [Pickering], Adam, son of Isabella, Alan Pye, Alan, his son, Thomas Porteval, John Champion, Robert Troilour, Peter Gower, Walter le Clerc, Geoffrey, son of Robert the Shepherd, Thomas de Brokton and John de Hoton, who mainperned to have him here, etc, on the first day of the eyre. They do not now have him. Therefore the said mainpernors are to be taken.
William, son of William Jurour: William was sent away by the mainprise of Robert Torald, John Jurour, Alexander Pyngel, Richard Erchebaud, John de Thormodby and John Tyleman, who mainperned him to have him here, etc, on the first day of the eyre. They do not have him. Therefore the mainpernors are to be taken.
Thomas de Collom: Thomas was sent away by the mainprise of William Reynald, Richard Erchebald, Adam Erchebald, William, son of Bennet, John del Hull and Richard Bellard, who mainperned to have him on the first day of the eyre. They now do not have him. Therefore the mainpernors are to be taken.
Robert Porcion: Robert was sent away by the mainprise of Ralph de Levesham [Levisham], John son of Alan, Robert le Forester of Alverstan [Allerston], Richard de Dalby, John Shaffalddoun, John de Rouceby [Roxby], David de Newton, John de Swathorp, Robert de Sandesby, Hugh le Clerc of Cropton, William son of Bartholomew, Thomas le Walker, and Hugh Fynche, who mainperned to have him here on the first day of the eyre. They do not now have him, etc.
John the chaplain of Hakenes [Hackness]: John was sent away by the mainprise of William son of Moy, Peter the fuller, Peter, son of William de Hakenes [Hackness], chaplain, Simon de Langedon, William Hay, John Ballard and William de Hakenes [Hackness], who mainperned to have him here on the first day of the eyre. They do not now have him, etc.
John Danyel: John was sent away by the mainprise of Hugh de Wyspoterdale, Walter Tuler, Gregory de Calleby, William Topclyf, Robert Spayne, John son of Walter, William Westby of Scalleby [Scalby], Thomas son of Gregory, Roger, son of Gilbert de Dales, Nicholas Lille, Adam Eskel and Simon Eskel, who mainperned to have him here on the first day of the eyre. They do not now have him, etc.
Adam, son of Adam de Suthfeld: Adam was sent away by the mainprise of Gregory de Scalleby [Scalby], Robert son of Alexander, Alan son of Alexander, Richard, son of Thomas de Aton [Ayton], Hugh Sclater, William son of Alexander, Robert Haye, Robert Neusom, Nicholas Lille, Richard Drye, Geoffrey Lille, Roger Frost, William Carpenter of Halden, Adam the smith of Halden, Robert Goos of the same, John le Tasker of the same, and Hugh de Hastynges [Hastings], who mainprised to have him here on the first day of the eyre, who now do not have him, etc.
Roger Drye: Roger was sent away by the mainprise of Godard de Roston, Thomas de Wylton, John de Holle, John Brike, Thomas Gye, William, son of Hugh del Hull of Wykham [Wykeham], John de Aton [Ayton] of Everle [Everley], Robert Hay, Robert Neuson, Nicholas Lille, Richard Drye and Geoffrey Lye, who mainperned to have him on the first day of the eyre, and they do not now have him, etc.
Richard Drye: Richard was sent away by the mainprise of Roger Drye, Hugh Lenus, Robert de Hedon, John Frerefrend, Henry le Pynder, John le Quyte of Fynele, John Tendbarn, Godard de Roston, John de Holle, Roger son of Godard, Roger de Werdale, Walter Stulp and Nicholas de Repyngale [Rippingale], who mainperned to have him on the first day of the eyre, and they do not now have him, etc:
John Woodward of Brumpton [Brompton]: John was sent away by the mainprise of William Courtman, John Munmuth, Thomas de Brokton, Walter son of Nicholas, John Shaffaldon and John de Ellerburn, who mainperned to have him on the first day of the eyre, and they do not now have him, etc.
John de Clif: After he trespassed by hunting in this forest, John was sent away by the mainprise of Nicholas de Hastynges [Hastings], Edmund de Hastynges [Hastings], John de la Chemene, Peter de Neville, Thomas Cokerell and Alan de Neuton [Newton], who mainperned to have him on the first day of the eyre, and they so not now have him, etc.
Held on: Monday next after Michaelmas 8 Edw III.
