Pleas of the forest of Henry, earl of Lancaster, of Pikeryng [Pickering], held at Pickering before Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], Robert de Hungerford and John de Hambury, justices itinerant on this occasion assigned to take pleas of the said forest in Yorkshire: People mentioned.
Robert de Acclom [Acklam] and Matthew Sturmy: On the eve of St Hilda the Virgin 20 [Edw I], they came in the said forest with two of Robert's greyhounds, one of which was white and the other dark, and they took one stag and carried away the game with them and they thereupon did their will. They now do not come, nor were they previously attached. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause them to come.
Geoffrey, son of Robert de Acclom [Acklam], Matthew Sturmy, Nicholas Sturmy and John de Lounesdale [Lonsdale]: On Wednesday next after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary 18 Edw II, they came on the moor in a place called Ranneslound with greyhounds, bows and arrows, and took there game and carried it away with them, and they thereupon did their will. They do not now come, nor were they previously attached, but it is witnessed that they are staying in the country. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause them to come.
Alan, son of John de Thornton, William le Archer, Ralph, son of Peter de Marton, and Robert de Westerdale: On Wednesday next before the Nativity of St John the Baptist 20 Edw I, they came in the said forest in a certain place called Troucedale, and there took one stag and carried away with them the game and thereupon did their will. They do not now come, nor were they previously attached, but it is witnessed that they are staying in the country. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause them to come.
John de Vescy: On the eve of the Circumcision 21 Edw I, John came in the said forest in a certain place called Saltergate, and took there one deer and one pricket without view of the forester with his greyhounds, and took away the meat with him, and thereupon did his will. He does not now come, nor was he previously attached, but it is witnessed that he is staying in the country. Therefore the sheriff is order to make him come.
Unknown wrongdoers: It is presented that unknown wrongdoers, on Monday next after the Epiphany 21 Edw I, came in the said forest with bows and arrows and greyhounds and let them run, and they caught a pricket and one deer and carried the game away with them and thereupon did their will.
John Calipan, groom of Roger Halden, Peter Sleveles, Alexander Pape of the same, Richard, son of William de Etton, the man of William Spayne of Brumpton [Brompton], and Robert, son of William Spayne: On Friday next before the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul, they came in the forest in a certain place called Brumpton Dale [Brompton Dale], and took there one stag and divided the meat between them. In such a way that each of them brought their part to the house where he was living, except for Alexander Pape, who sold his part for 4½d, and they thereupon did his will. They do not now come, nor were they previously attached, etc. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause them to come, etc.
Robert de Acclom [Acklam], John, his son, Nicholas Pykstan, Hugh Prudhomme, and Roger, son of Cib de Wirschou: It is presented that they, on Tuesday next before Ascension 21 Edw I, came in the said forest in a certain place called Taksyk, with five greyhounds and hunted there one deer and killed it, and after it was hunted, it escaped from them. And the said deer was found dead with an arrow in its head. And afterwards it is witnessed that Peter de Neuton [Newton], John, son of Patrick of Westerdale, and Roger Rabuk of Eskedale [Esk Dale] were there to take the game. They now do not come, nor were they previously attached, but it is witnessed that they are living in the country.
Reynold Burreheued of Salden [Sawdon]: On Wednesday in the week of Easter 21 Edw I, Reginald came in the said forest in a certain place called Troucedale, and he took there one pricket stag and carried away the game to his own house, and thereupon he did his will. He does not now come, etc. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause him to come.
Hugh de Hastynges [Hastings], Nicholas de la Lex, Nicholas, son of the same Hugh, and Adam Scot: On Monday next after the feast of St Gregory 21 Edw I, they came in the said forest in a place called Westerdale with their greyhounds, and they took one stag between Alverstan [Allerston] and Wilton and carried away the game to Hugh's house in Allerston, and they thereupon did their will. They do not now come, nor were they previously attached, but it is witnessed that are living in the country.
Robert de Acclom [Acklam], Duket, his son, Geoffrey de Lepyndon, William de Percy, Roger de Loketon [Lockton], William del Dales, Thomas, his brother, Geoffrey de Everle, Nicholas de Levesham [Levisham], the groom of the same Geoffrey, Roger de Harewode [Harewood], Roger de Barneby, Thomas, son of Stephen de Asseby, John de Marton, and John, lord of Berghby: On Monday next before Pentecost, they came in the said forest in a certain place called Thursfen with greyhounds, bows and arrows, and they took both stags and three deer and the game there was shared between them, and they did their will thereupon. They do not now come, but it is testified that they are staying in the country. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause them to come.
William Duk, forester of the abbot of Ryevall [Rievaulx]: It is presented that he is a common wrongdoer of hunting and consenting to wrongdoers of hunting, and stays in Norhou.
William de Fisseburn [Fishburn]: It is presented that he is a common wrongdoer of hunting in all places in the forest, and consenting to wrongdoers of hunting.
William de Seteryngton [Settrington], woodward of Levesham [Levisham]: On Wednesday next before Michaelmas 18 Edw II, William came in the said forest in a certain place called Neutondale [Newtondale] with bows and arrows, and killed there one stag and carried away the game with him and thereupon did his will. He has not now come, but was attached, etc. Item, Robert Scut, Richard, son of Alan de Levesham [Levisham], Ralph Pete of the same, John Kilyng of the same, Walter, son of Simon of the same, and William Smith of the same. They did not have him on the first day of the eyre, just as they mainprised him, and are staying in the country. Therefore the sheriff is ordered to cause them to come.
