Description

Folios: 197-197v. County of Yorkshire. Indenture.

First party: Henry, earl of Lancaster.

Second party: Henry de Lancaster, son of the same earl.

Place or subject: Whereas the earl by his deed granted to Henry, his son, that the castle, vill and honor of Pontefract and the manors and tenements with any rents and services both of freeholders and villeins, together with knights' fees, advowsons, churches, chapels, abbeys, priories, hospitals, forests, chases, parks, warrens, fishponds and any other appurtenances theruento belonging, and which ought to remain to the earl after the death of Alice, countess of Lincoln, are to remain to Henry, his son, for the term of the life of Henry the son, and whereas Henry the son is [held] to the earl in £1,000 sterling for a yearly pension, payable to the earl at the Easter and Michaelmas in equal portions, for the whole of the life of the same Henry the son, the earl grants that, if Henry the son, having had seisin of the said castle, vill and honor and manors with any other appurtenances belonging to the said honor, hands over the said castle, vill and honor and manors with all other their appurtenances pertaining to the said honor in any way to the earl after the death of the said Alice, he will be completely quit from the payment of the said £1,000 of yearly pension from then on.
