Description

Folio: 195v. County of Yorkshire. Writ.

First party: Edward I.

Second party: Alexander de Kyrketon [Kirkton] and Ranulph de Dacre.

Place or subject: The king has assigned Alexander and Ranulph to inquire by the oath of upright and lawful men of Yorkshire, by whom the truth of the matter can be better known, into all trespasses made by Edmund, the king's brother, in his forest in that county, and to hear and determine those trespasses according to the law and custom of the realm. And the king commands them to make that inquisition at a certain day and place, which they provide for this, and hear and determine the said trespasses in the same form.

Second party: The justices assigned to hold pleas of the forest of Edmund, his brother, at Pikering [Pickering].

Place or subject: The king has granted to his brother the amercements of men amerced before them for trespasses of greenwood and hunting made by anyone in the forest of Pikering [Pickering].

Second party: Alexander de Kirketon [Kirkton].

Place or subject: Whereas the king lately commanded Alexander and his fellow justices itinerant assigned to hold pleas of Pik' [Pickering], on behalf of Roger le Bigod, earl of Norfolk and marshal of England, to cause his bailiwick there to be restored to the earl without delay, which he caused to be taken into the king's hands, Alexander has delayed from doing this on account that his associates and the earl were not present, as the king has heard, to his very serious damage.
