Description

Folios: 190-190v. County of Yorkshire. Indenture.

First party: Godfrey Foliaumbe [Foljambe], Robert de Swylington [Swillington], Simon Symeon and William Fyncheden.

Second party: Thomas de Haselden.

Place or subject: Whereas the king has granted for the term of his life the manor of Cowyk [Cowick] and Snayth [Snaith] with the appurtenances, which he had from the lease of John [John of Gaunt], duke of Lancaster, and Blanche, his wife, for the term of his life, which manor was in the hands of Henry [Henry of Grosmont], duke of Lancaster, in fee and descended after his death to Lady Blanche, daughter and heir of the said Henry and wife of the said John, duke of Lancaster, Henry granted to his groom Thomas de Hasleden for the term of his life the bailiwick of the vill of Snayth [Snaith] and the whole lordship of those parts with the windmill and several other profits of the said lordship, as is more fully clear in letters patent thereof. Paying to the said duke and his heirs for the office and bailiwick £15 at Michaelmas and Easter in equal portions, which grant was confirmed to Thomas by the said John, duke of Lancaster. Godfrey and the others grant that Thomas is to hold the said bailiwick with the appurtenances during the life of the queen according to the effect and purport of the said letters patent. With the assent of John, duke of Lancaster they have pardoned Thomas, during the life of the queen or John del Halle, the £7 13s 4d which he ought to pay them from the sum of £15.
