Description

Folios: 132-132v. County of Lancaster. Copies of charters by which diverse liberties are claimed in this eyre: Grant.

First party: Henry III.

Second party: The burgesses of Preston.

Place or subject: Because the king understands by an inquisition which he caused to be made by the sheriff of Lancaster that 324 acres of land, both of old and of new purpresture, which the burgesses of Preston in Amondernesse [Amounderness] made below the king's hay of Foulwode [Fulwood], pertain to the borough of Preston and not to the said hay, which purpresture extends by these metes, namely by the stream of Enesebrouk at Rybbelton [Ribbleton] Scales to where that stream falls into the river Savek [Savick], and so descending by that river to the ancient ditch which is divided between Preston and Tulkyd [Tulketh], the king grants that the said burgesses may have forever that purpresture, and that from the moor towards the wood of Foulwode [Fulwood] outside the covert of the same wood within the said metes they can bring and reduce into cultivation, as they wish, without impediment of the king's foresters and verderers.
