Folio: 93v. County of Lancaster. Notification.
First party: Roger [Roger de Northburgh], bishop of Coventry and Lichfield.
Place or subject: It has been brought to the bishop's attention that there has been some doubt about the legitimacy of Maud, wife of Robert de Wetenhale, daughter of William de Walton of Lich' [Lichfield] and Margery de Clayton. The bishop has been informed that the said William and Margery were married legally and from then on and still are living together as man and wife, and begat the said Maud while in this state of marriage, and brought her up as their own daughter. And that the same Maud from the time of her birth throughout the whole neighbourhood was regarded as the legitimate daughter of the same William and Margery and still is.
