Description

Place or subject: William de Walton of Lichefeld [Lichfield], in his household in the city of Lichefelden' [Lichfield], where he was then living, wished and asserted, for certain causes moving him, to declare the status and condition of Maud, his daughter, and said it was brought to the notice of his neighbours, and he swore a bodily oath upon the holy gospels that he had solemnly married in the face of the church Margery, his wife, mother of the said Maud, the same Margery being then pregnant by the same William, on Sunday in the feast of Trinity, and that the said Margery had given birth to the said Maud after the said marriage had been contracted. Subsequently, Margery and also Robert de Trentham and Robert de Fulfen, then being personally present there, swore upon the gospels that the said William had told the truth.
