Description

Folio: 85v. County of Lancaster. Inquisition into the goods and chattels formerly of Adam de Preston, late keeper of the hospital of St Mary Magdalene of Preston.

Place or subject: The jurors say that Adam had at the said hospital six horses, each worth 10s, which were lead down at Hekeling by his servants. Also one cow with a calf worth 12s, which Robert, brother of the said Adam, has in his custody in the vill of Preston. From all kinds of corn, which were in the grange of the said hospital, from the issue of this year past, a great part was seized and a great part was sold to the use of the said Adam, and one quarter and a half of wheat was taken away in pretence to the house of the said Robert, brother of the said Adam, worth 20s. One quarter of wheat was given to Roger de Preston by the said Adam and was delivered by the sheriff in the presence of John de Coupelond [Coupland], worth one mark, and one quarter was delivered to John de Preston by the command of John de Coupelond, worth one mark, and which are now in the grange, from the rest of five quarters of wheat, each worth one mark. And there are by estimation in sheaves one quarter and a half of rye, each quarter worth 10s 8d, and two quarters and a half of barley, each quarter worth 10s. One festival vestment is in the custody of the said Robert, brother of the said Adam, and another festival vestment remains in the said chapel. Also one mass-book. one psalter of the saints. one book of antiphons. one temporal legend. one ordinal. one chalice of silver with a gilt bowl. one anthem. one psalter of the saints. two crosses. one silver box and one belt of St Mary Magdalene. two altar-towels. two cloths of silk hanging next to the image of St Mary.
