Folios: 72v-73. County of Lancaster. Petition.
First party: The abbot and convent of Kirkestall [Kirkstall].
Second party: Isabella, queen of England. Place or subject: petition to make restoration of certain tenements of which they have been disseised in the lordship of Blakeburnshire [Blackburnshire] according to an inquisition made by John Giffard, steward, Richard de Aldeburgh and Thomas Dayvill therein attached.
The jurors say that Henry de Lascy [Lacy], formerly lord of Blakeburneshire [Blackburnshire] and the manor of Bernoleswyk [Barnoldswick], gave the manor of Barnoldswick to Alexander, abbot of Kyrkestall [Kirkstall] and the monks there by the boundaries contained in a deed of the same Henry made to the same abbot and monks, and which boundaries the same Henry has perambulated, namely beginning by the river which is called Blakebrok, and so down beyond the moor straight to Gaylesmersh, and so straight to the head of Ellesshagh, and so going across the hill which is called Blakeou, and so to Oxgill, and so by Oxgill down to Piketlou, which is called Aleynsete, and from Pikedlou to the old ditch between Mithop and Cuillerdene. By the gift of which the same abbot and monks and their successors were seised of the same manor with appurtenances peacefully by the said boundaries until the time of Henry III, when Edmund de Lascy, father of Henry de Lascy, formerly earl of Lincoln, ejected the same abbot, predecessor of the now abbot, from tenements within the said boundaries. As to how much land, they say that about 1,500 acres. Having been asked if they shared with their beasts in the same tenements the cow pastures of the lords of Blakeburnshire [Blackburnshire], which were then situated next to tenements within the said boundaries at the time when the predecessors of the said abbot were seised of the said tenements, or not, they say that they do not know. Questioned also as to if the tenants of the lords of Colne at the said time shared in the same tenements with their beasts or not, they say that they did not.
