Second party: John [John of Gaunt], duke of Lancaster, and Blanche [Blanche of Lancaster], his wife.
Place or subject: John, duke of Lancaster, and Blanche his wife have entreated the king that, whereas Henry, late earl of Lancaster, at the prosecution of the abbot and convent of Whalleye [Whalley], pretending that they have right in the chapel of St Michael in the castle of Cliderhowe [Clitheroe] with its rights and appurtenances by reason of the parish church of the same abbot and convent of Whalleye [Whalley], which they hold, has granted to the said abbot and convent the advowson of the said chapel, which is parcel of the lordship of Blakeburnshire [Blackburnshire], which is of the inheritance of the said Blanche, and which is held of the king in chief. By virtue of which grant, the said abbot and convent have entered into the same chapel without having obtained the king's lience, by which the advowson of the said chapel has come into the king's hands as forfeited. The king grants to the said duke and Blanche the said advowson.
