Folios: 51-58v. Confirmation of a charter of Lancaster by Henry IV, dated 14 October 1 Hen IV.

Whereas the duchy of Lancaster and several other counties, honors, castles, manors, fees, possessions and lordships within the realm of England and Wales and elsewhere descended to the king, both by the death of Henry [Henry of Grosmont], late duke of Lancaster, his grandfather, and John [John of Gaunt], late duke of Lancaster, his father, and Blanche [Blanche of Lancaster] his wife, the king's mother, daughter and heir of the said Henry, by right of inheritance, in which same duchy, counties, honors, castles, manors, possessions and lordships diverse liberties, royal rights, customs and franchises are and were granted to the king's said progenitors and ancestors, some to them and their heirs in tail, and some to them and their heirs in tail male, and some to the king's said father for the term of his life by diverse charters of Edward III and Richard II as follows.

John [John Gilbert] bishop of St Davids, the king's treasurer. Edmund [Edmund of Langley], duke of York. Thomas [Thomas of Woodstock], duke of Gloucester, the king's uncles. Richard [Richard fitz Alan], earl of Arundel. William [William Montagu], earl of Salisbury. Henry [Henry Percy], earl of Northumberland. Richard le Scrope. John Devereux, steward of the king's household.

Inspeximus by Ric II, dated at Westminster, 15 Ric II, of charter of Edward III, dated at Shene [Sheen] on 4 June 51 Edw III, made by Edward III to his son John [John of Gaunt], king of Castile and Leon and duke of Lancaster, uncle of the present king. Witnesses: S. [Simon Sudbury], archbishop of Canterbury. A. [Adam Houghton], bishop of St Davids, chancellor. H. [Henry Wakefield], bishop of Worcester, treasurer. Edmund [Edmund of Langley], earl of Cambridge, Thomas de Wodestok [Woodstock], constable of England, the king's sons. Henry de Percy, marshal of England. John de Ipre, steward of the king's household. Nicholas Carreu [Carew], keeper of the privy seal.
