Description

Folios: 23v-24. Wales. Letters testimonial about how the king took the homage of Henry, son of Edmund, the king's brother.

First party: Edward I.

Second party: Henry de Lancastre [Lancaster], son of Edmund, the king's brother, deceased.

Place or subject: The castle, vill and honor of Mon' [Monmouth], the castles of Grossomente [Grosmont], Skenefrith [Skenfrith] and Album Castrum [White Castle], and the manors of Radleie [Rodley] and Menstreworth [Minsterworth], and all lands and tenements which the same Edmund formerly had beyond the Severn, and which he a long time ago handed over in the king's hands, and which thereafter the king granted to the same Edmund and Henry by his charter. To hold to the same Edmund for the whole of his life from the king and his heirs by the services which the same Edmund was accustomed to do before the said handing over, with knights' fees, advowsons of churches, forests and all other things pertaining to the said castles, vill and honor, manors, lands and tenements, and together with all liberties and free customs, as fully and freely as the lords of the same held them, and which after the decease of the same Edmund ought to remain to the same Henry and the heirs of his body according to the tenor of the said charter of the king.
