Folios: 23-23v. Wales. Inquisition about the distinction of the boundaries of the churches of Landyvaillok [Llandefaelog] and Pembrey, reciting in French a commission to survey the said churches, dated at the new castle of Tuttebirs [Tutbury] on 18 Aug 3 Edw III.
First party: Henry, earl of Lancaster and Leicester, steward of England, lord of Monemut [Monmouth], patron of the said churches.
Place or subject: The boundaries of the churches of Landyvaillok [Llandefaelog] and Pembrey. The surveyors say on oath that about the whole land, which Llewellyn ap Wyllym [Llywelyn ap Gwilym] and Jeuan ap Willym [Ieuan ap Gwilym] cultivate and inhabit, and also about the whole of the rest in the forest, about which the controversy has been moved between the said rectors, they do not know how to distinguish or say in any way the boundaries or limits or in which parish of the said churches they are situated, on account that they have not seen or heard the said boundaries between the said churches that were first of all placed or distinguished. The same jurors say that about those lands, which the said Llewellyn ap Willym and Jeuan ap Willym cultivate, the rector of Pembrey was in possession of taking the tithes issuing thereof, but the beginning of whose tithing does not excede the thirtieth year from the first crop of the same. However, they do not know how to discern or say the boundaries of the same lands or within whose parish they are. In addition, the jurors say that the current rector of Landyvaillok [Llandefaelog] and his predecessors for the time being as rectors was and were, each of them, in possession of taking all the tithes howsoever issuing from the whole of the rest in the said forest, about which the contention was being moved between the rectors, and he and they received them, each of them.
County: [Carmarthenshire].
Additional people: The said Henry, earl of Lancaster, appoints as commissioners Maurice de Novo Castro and John Sergant. The jurors appointed are Cadugan ap Griffyn. Jeuan ap Gullehauet. Walter ab Jeuan. Patrick ap Meurik. David Braas. Griffith Varthan ap Griffith ap Rice. John Sotiler. Elidir ap Griffith. William Moya ab Adam. Llewellyn ap Henry. Dated at a place called Glunytalkey in the parish of Landevaillok [Llandefaelog] by the forest of the lord of Kedewelli [Kidwelly].
