Place or subject: The honor, vill and castle of Leicester and all lands and tenements of the same honor, with knights' fees and all other appurtenances, formerly of Simon de Montefort, earl of Leicester, the king's enemy, which passed to the king as escheats by Simon's forfeiture according to the law and custom of the realm, by the war which he raised against the king to his disinheritance in his realm, and the battles which he waged against the king, in one of which at Evesham he was killed as the king's enemy. To hold to Edmund and his heirs in tail with all things belonging to the said honor, vill and castle, by whatever right or name they can be known, just as the same Simon formerly held them, doing to the king and his heirs the services thereupon due and accustomed. Also all the lands and tenements which the same Simon held of the barony, formerly of John le Viscounte in Northumberland and elsewhere, and all other lands and tenements which the same Simon held of the king by inheritance, and which came to the king as escheats in like manner. To have to the same Edmund and his said heirs with advowsons of churches, knights' fees, services of freemen and all other things belonging to the said lands and tenements, doing to the king and his heirs the services due and accustomed. And also all the other lands and tenements which Simon held of his other chief lords and which by his said forfeiture, by the common consent and council of the magnates and subjects of the realm, pertained to the king's order and disposition, just as lands of other rebels who came into conflict with the king in the abovesaid battles, saving to the chief lords their homages and services on this occasion. To have to the same Edmund and his heirs with all things belonging to the said lands and tenements of the chief lords of those fees, doing all services due and accustomed to them.
