Folios 215-216: enclosure with folios 184-187. letter A. Copy letter. John Dilkes to His Excellency the Viceroy of Canton, 23 February 1800. Describes the actions he is taking following receipt of the letter from Mr Hall, President of the East India Company's Factory, in relation to the sailor who fired the shot which wounded the Chinese sailor. Assures him that he will take all necessary action. Repeats his regret that he was not granted an audience when he arrived, when he would have emphasised that the schooner was almost lost to the same kind of incident, but expresses his willingness to meet with any Officer or Judge over the matter.
Folios 217-218: enclosure with folios 184-187. letter B. John Dilkes to the Viceroy of Canton, 13 March 1800. Letter of indignant complaint over his treatment at the Tribunal yesterday, and that of his interpreter. He understands that he was asked to remain in Canton for several days but urgent business requires him to leave on Saturday morning. Also wishes to make clear that he should be communicated with direct, and not through the East India Company.
Folios 219-220: enclosure with folios 184-187. Letter 7. Copy letter. Richard Hall, Samuel Peach, F Turnly, James Drummond, George Sparks, [East India Company], to Captain Dilkes, 23 March 1800. Encloses a copy of the proceedings which took place yesterday before a Mandarin deputed by the Viceroy.
Folios 221-222: enclosure with folios 184-187. Letter 8. Copy letter. G T S Munton. Summary of the inquiry and prosecution relating to the accident on board HMS Providence, held before Chu Leu Ye, Mandarin deputed by the Viceroy, which has been resolved in a satisfactory manner. Although the sailor who fired the shot should be punished, this will be dispensed with on this occasion. Requests that all Europeans are forbidden to fire at boats that approach their ships, but they may fire blanks or arrest the crew and detain them on board. The Mandarin is satisfied with the conduct of the President and Committee of the East India Company. He concluded by apologising on behalf of the Judge for his behaviour towards the Captain and the interpreter.
Folios 223-224: enclosure with folios 184-187. Letter D. Copy letter. John Dilkes to the Viceroy of Canton, 27 March 1800. Letter of thanks for the Viceroy's actions, which he will communicate to His Majesty's Government. Was pleased to receive the apology in relation to the Judge's behaviour, which did him no credit.
Folios 225-226: enclosure with folios 184-185. Letter E. Copy letter. John Dilkes to His Excellency the Hoppo, Canton, 3 May 1800. His letter of thanks to the Viceroy appears not to have been delivered. Has sent an Officer to deliver it to the Mandarin, who refused to accept it, so he has left it with the officials of the East India Company.
Folio 227: blank.
