Part 1, Folios 88-89. Letter dated at Brussels. The Prince of Waldeck to the Prince of Orange. Enclosed are the last resolutions of the Marquis de Grana. I find things in a horribly bad state and the haughty answer he has given to Monsieur Manhado has no grounds for it. I tried to induce him to soften it, but he did not wish to say what is impossible to perform. The said Marquis told me that he wished that more people could be put into the places, above all in Namur, for they would not be strong enough to relieve a place and failing in a relief all would be lost; that it was of consequence to keep the candle burning as long as possible as long as any hope remained, although they had written to him from Madrid to risk everything, if a place was besieged.
