Part 1, Folios 50-51. Letter dated at London from Lord Danby to the Prince of Orange that the King is very surprised at the haste of the States-General to make peace and has sent Mr Hyde to them to tell them that in his (the King's) view the French have not performed 'their own project' at Nijmegen in April and consequently that the last treaty between England and Holland is in force and ought to be put into effect. If the States-General do what they should towards England and Spain the King will stand by them for the neutrality of Cleves and Juliers. Peace or war with France will entirely depend on the resolutions of the States which Danby hopes that the Prince will be able to influence. Danby assures the Prince that the King will do nothing in either case except in concert with him.
