Part 1, Folios 48-49. Letter dated at Whitehall from Henry Coventry [Secretary of State] to the Prince of Orange. 'I received by Mr Meredith the honour of one from you of the 16/26 of July and with it the joyful news of the signing of a treaty betwixt his Majesty and the States General no man with more passion desireth a firm settling of that friendship than I do and therefore am not a little exalted with all accidents that tend to the improvement of it and equally directed at any thing that obstructeth it. This express will bring you his Majesty's opinion of what is yet needful for the perfecting this good work which I hope by the powerful influence of your Highness will be happily brought to pass that the main design may be carried on with that cheerfulness and unanimity as may give Xdm [Christendom] quiet and security and your Highness the continuance of that great glory and esteem you have already so deservedly obtained. I heartily congratulate the success of your councils at home and as heartily pray for the prosperity of your arms abroad'.
