From 2024 Department for Transport
The Transport Policy Urban Division (TPUD) was set up in 1990 as primarily an economic division with general responsibility for intermodal transport issues and environmental issues. It sat under Traffic Policy and London Region until 1994 when it passed to Economics. It was replaced in 1997 by Transport and the Environment Division (TED).
Files selected for retention are comprised almost entirely of the Bill papers for the Road Traffic Reduction (National Targets) Act 1998. The Act requires the Secretary of State for Transport when considering setting or updating road traffic reduction targets or reports to take account of congestion, pollution, road danger, health, landscape and biodiversity, social and climate impacts at such times as they deem appropriate.
