Part 1, Folios 198-199. Letter dated at Windsor from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange. He sees from the Prince's reply to his letter that not only there is no more to be said at present but also that the Duke of Monmouth has been to see him. The Duke says although he is not surprised that Monmouth failed to notify the Prince of his coming, he does think it odd enough for him to present himself to the Prince after 'having been engaged in so horrid a conspiracy for the alteration of the government and ruin of the King and our family' and gives his reasons for saying this. The Duke writes that when he began his letter he had not intended to say so much about the Duke of Monmouth and 'let him give what reason he pleases for the occasion of his being at Brussels, I can never trust to what he says, or believe him, and I think you will be to blame if you do....but that you shall still find me as kind to you as you can desire'.
