Part 1, Folios 178-179. Letter dated at London from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange. The Duke thinks that publishing Algernon Sidney's paper, though a 'very treasonable and insolent one', has enabled people see what his principles were and what both he and the rest of the conspirators drove at. Sidney's trial has also been published and the Duke has sent a copy to his daughter. The Duke says he can very easily believe that the Prince was surprised at Monmouth's behaviour about which the Duke repeats his opinion that it was as well that Monmouth showed himself so soon 'for had he stayed and dissembled he might have done much mischief but now he can do but little'. The deaths of 'poor' Lord St Albans and Lord Peters are mentioned along with the frozen Thames.
