Part 1, Folios 104-106. Letter dated at London from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange. The Duke hopes that the intelligence the Prince has received about the ability of Mons to hold out for some time will dissuade him from attempting its relief for the time being. The King will get ready those troops that can be spared, besides those already in Flanders, to join the Prince in case the French do not conclude the peace within the time set. If the French do not evacuate the towns the King is resolved 'to prosecute the war vigorously'. The Duke of Monmouth is being sent to Bruges to ready the troops there if the war continues. The Duke [of York] will oversee the embarkation of the troops from England and will be ready to go over with them if required. In order that the Prince can make his plans he is being informed of all the arrangements before the King has heard from Lord Feversham. The Duke gives details of English troop numbers both in Flanders and to be embarked.
