Part 1, Folios 93-94. Letter dated at London from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange. He is anxious to hear how his daughter [the Princess Mary] is having heard she has not been well. He hopes that both Van Leewen [Leeuwen] and Sir William Temple have satisfied both the Prince and the States of the King's good intentions to stick by them 'if they will take vigorous resolutions' which the Duke hopes they will notwithstanding the loss of some of the Duke of Lorraine's troops trying to relieve Reinfeld [Rheinfeld]. To the Duke's mind this loss ought to make the Prince adhere firmly to his resolutions 'for else at Vienna it might have an ill effect'. The Duke gives details of the troop numbers being sent from Blackwall and Portsmouth to Newport [Nieuwport] and Bruges and when necessary more will be ready to follow. Parliament is drawing to a close and will, the Duke hopes, conclude well as' many of the angry men are gone out of town'.
