Part 1, Folios 89-90. Letter dated at London from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange. It is not necessary for the Duke to say much as Sir William Temple, the bearer, has been fully instructed by the King. In the event of the French not abiding by their offer to the Prince he will find how firmly the English stick by him so let the French do what they please as the Duke is confident it will have done them no good and the Prince will find it to his advantage. The Duke advises the Prince to be more at the Hague than he has been 'for I know by experience that nothing can do one so much good as being upon the place where all the business is done when by being away one loses opportunity that may advance ones affairs and cannot gain friends as may be is necessary for you as well as others.....for I am so concerned for you that I must say any thing to you that I think to be for your good, for you shall alway[s] find me as kind to you as you can desire'.
