Part 1, Folios 66-67. Letter dated at London from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange that the political situation grows worse every day. The house of Commons have completed their Address to the King for the removal of all his ministers including the Duke of Lauderdale by name as by doing so 'will discourage all allies and makes us here not know almost what to do and this is but the forerunner of worse things'. In view of this the Duke does not see how the war can be continued it being clear that the main aim of 'the ill people here' is to engage the King in a war so that they may more easily ruin him. Although this is not definite the Duke is confident the country will be forced to a peace and thinks it very necessary to let the Prince know so much that he can act accordingly. He mentions that he has only just seen Ruvigny [Henri de Massue, Marquis de Ruvigny] who has come from the French army.
