Part 1, Folios 45-46. Letter dated at London from the Duke of York to the Prince of Orange that he understands the Prince's situation which would be better had Parliament or the Spaniards 'done their parts as they should'. The bearer of the letter is Godolphin who is being sent by the King to consult with the Prince as to what is now to be done. News has only just been received of the capture of Ghent [by the French] and at the request of Marquess de Bourgemaine the King has ordered the two battalions of British troops at Ostend to go to Bruges and an additional 12 companies to Ostend. The Duke assures the Prince that nothing shall be wanting in supporting his interest.
