Description

Prisoner name: Matthew Andrew Lock alias John William Brown or William Brown.

Court and Date of Trial: York Quarter Sessions, Sheffield, May 1848.

Crime: Felony.

Initial sentence: One month's imprisonment.

Gaoler's Report: Insane.

Outcome: Middlesex lunatic asylum, 20 June 1848. Discharged, 5 January 1849.

Petitions and letters: Application for removal of prisoner from Wakefield House of Correction to Hanwell lunatic asylum, with certificate from visiting justices and surgeons confirming insanity, with letter concerning settlement and maintenance.

Medical certificate from Hamwell lunatic asylum confirming prisoner's sanity.
