Crime: Stealing coal, the property of Charles Mitchell of Bruton, esquire.

Petitions and letters: Petition from 12 inhabitants of Holcombe and Stoke Lane, pleading previous good character, respectable family and youth, undersigned by Charles Mitchell, the prosecutor, with covering letter.
Report from chairman of Quarter Sessions, finding no grounds for mitigation, and opining that prisoner's residence, Stoke Lane, 'notorious as the resort of thieves', with further letter stating that prisoner 'a bad character'.
