Description

Captured ship: House of Austria of Ostend, otherwise Huis van Oostenrijk (master Bartel Contalis, otherwise Bartholomew Contales).

History: a Flemish (Southern Netherlands) merchant ship, bound from Bordeaux to Ostend, laden with wine, prunes and tobacco; [driven by bad weather into the Isle of Wight] and seized in port at Cowes sometime between 15/25 January 1672/1673 (when the ship was still lading at Bordeaux) and 19 February/1 March 1672/1673.
