Captured ship: Hope of Rotterdam, otherwise Hoop, Esperance, Esperança (master Crijn Simonsen of Rotterdam, otherwise Krijn Sijmense, Crin Symensen, Krean Seymone).
History: a Dutch merchant ship (100-135 tons, 50 lasts, 8 men, 1 passenger, built at Zaandam), bound from Madeira to Rotterdam, laden with Madeira wines, canes, sugar; taken on 29 March/8 April 1672 off Plymouth by HMS Nightingale (Henry Clarke commanding) and brought into Plymouth on 30 March/9 April 1672.
Documents:- examinations, HCA wrapper, 8 ship's papers and 3 letters/notes, numbered No 1-11 (suffix 'dd'?) (the SP numbering here follows this scheme).

Ships papers, numbered SP 1-11: SP 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 are ships papers; SP 3, 4 and 8 are letters. 9, 10 and 11 (also used as an HCA wrapper) are passes in hard back archival protection.
