Captured ship: Happy Entrance of Weymouth (master James Cox; prize master Abraham France of Veere).
History: an English merchant ship (12/16 tons), bound from St Martin de Ré to Weymouth, laden with salt, wine, vinegar and brandy; taken about midnight on 15/25 November 1673 about 12 leagues north of Ushant by the 14-gun Dutch privateer Fortune of Middelburg (Cornelis Willemsen commanding) and sent in for Middelburg, but whilst off the Isle of Wight sailing against contrary winds, the 4 prize crew were bribed with £18 to bring her first into Studland Bay, then into Poole harbour on 17/27 November 1673, where she was retaken on 18/28 November when a dredger claimed her as prize.
