Description

Captured ship: Griffin of Stade [Bremen-Verden] (master Hans Florck, otherwise Flörck).

History: a Swedish (Bremen-Verden) merchant ship (110-120 lasts, 15 men), bound from Rotterdam to, it was said, any port this side of Finisterre, laden with mats, tow, flax, twine and wine; taken sometime between mid-January (when the crew were hired at Amsterdam) and 17/27 February 1672/1673 by an unnamed captor (commander also unnamed), and brought into Newcastle upon Tyne.

  • [CP 1]: five examinations taken at Newcastle, 17 February 1672/1673.

Extra information:_

  • See IND 1/9012, f.30: restored 4/14 March 1672/1673;
  • Owners: Henry Becosse, Henricke Bartolls, and Nicholas Keul, also said to be the Governor and two burgomasters of Stade.
