Description

Captured ship: Fortune of Ostend (master Anthony van Bysem of Saventem [near Brussels], otherwise Anthoni van Besen, Anthoine van Bijse [Anthony van Beeson, Bason]).

History: a Flemish (Southern Netherlands) fishing vessel (dogger or small ketch, 6 lasts, formerly the English ship Adventure of Yarmouth); [taken (before 11/21 October 1673) by HMS Portsmouth pink (Thomas Binning of Bynning commanding) and brought into Yarmouth].

Documents:- abstract, 6 ship's papers in Dutch, numbered 1-6. Numbering here follows the Court scheme. 1-4 on thong, 6 used as a HCA wrapper:

Court Papers, numbered CP 1- :-

  • [CP 1]: abstract of she six ship's papers.

Ships Papers, numbered SP 1-6:-

  • SP 1: Ostend burger-brief, 5 April 1673;
  • SP 2: Ostend seabrief, 5 April 1673;
  • SP 3-SP 6: four Ostend passes; the latest, no 6 dated 25 August 1673 was also used as a wrapper; some also wrongly endorsed St Peter (one erased)]. ;

Extra information:-

  • see IND 1/9012, f.26v: ship and lading condemned 16 February 1673/4;
  • see also HCA 30/882, p. 63: 6 papers received early November 1673.
