Description

Captured ship: Fisher otherwise Pecheur (prize master Willem Parreman of Middelburg, otherwise Willem Parema, William Parema).

History: a French merchant ship (ketch), bound from [France ?] to Middelburg laden with wines and other goods; taken on 25 October/4 November 1672 by the Dutch privateer Vliegende Draak [Flying Dragon, of Middelburg], (Robbert Matthijssen commanding), then sent in for Middelburg; retaken on 8/18 November 1672 off Beachy Head and about 2 leagues from Fairlight by the privateer [ketch] Revenge [of Dover] (John Aden commanding), and brought into Dover [on 9/19 November 1672].

Court Papers, numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: commission, 11 November 1672;
  • [CP 2]: special interrogatories;
  • [CP 3]: three examinations taken at Dover, 16 November 1672.

Ships Papers, numbered SP 1:

  • SP 1: copy of a privateering commission of 4 September 1672, issued to Benjamin Raule for Robbert Matthijssen to command an unnamed privateer, issued aboard the privateer Vliegende Draak to the prize master Willem Parema of the prize Fransche Cysee [this ship?] at sea on 4 November 1672.
