Captured ship: Dolphin of Dublin (prize master Leijn Janse of Middelburg, otherwise Leonard Johnson).
History: an Irish merchant ship (7 men before capture); taken on 24 February/5 March 1672/1673 to the west of Portland by the Dutch privateer Rose and Cross of Middelburg (John Johnson Wight commanding), chased by the privateer Dover (Brett commanding) from west of Dover into the Downs on 26 February/7 March 1672/1673, but Brett lost sight of the chase for a time in poor visibility, retaken at anchor in the Downs by the privateer Dover and brought into Dover. Before the capture, the prize was allegedly ignored by two British naval warships, but was boarded first by 5 men in a small boat from Deal.
