The School Examinations and Assessment Council (SEAC) was established in August 1988 under the Education Reform Act 1988, and took over some of its functions from the Secondary Examinations Council.
The SEAC was required to review all aspects of examinations and assessment and to advise the Secretary of State when required. In addition, it was to publish and disseminate information relating to these subjects.
In 1993, the SEAC was replaced by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
